2021 Christmas Project Parts 4 and 5: Immanuel/Peace

“God With Us.” That’s what Immanuel means, and what Christmas proclaims: Jesus is God’s real presence in the world. He came to make us whole, to give us peace.

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:6-7

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

When Jesus’s parents brought him to the Temple to follow their custom, he was met by a saint named Simeon, who had been waiting for Israel’s consolation. When Simeon saw Jesus, he gave this beautiful prayer:

“Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word;
for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
Luke 2:29-32
